Description
The inside dimensions of the sauna itself is 7'x7'. The ceiling is 7' with the benches set higher than typical saunas to get you up into the sweet spot of the heat curve. The porch is a comfortable 30" deep. Enough for a chair or two.
We have spent a lot of time refining this sauna prior to release, minimizing everything down to what is only needed. The Mökki sauna is the first of its kind in Canada - possibly North America – and built in Calgary. It is built from mass timber panels. The panels are made of solid Douglas Fir, giving the walls, floor and roof a thickness of 4". Mass timber is extremely efficient when it comes to carbon, energy and waste. Far more efficient than typical stud framing. The design we finally arrived at leaves next to no waste.
The glass wall is double glazed 6mm tempered glass and door is 10mm tempered glass. The door handle is black aluminum with an Oak handle on the inside.
The included LED indirect valence light gives the sauna a warm soft glow.
Siding and roofing are included.
Heater
For electrical heaters – we supply an electrical rough-in kit that mounts on the back of the sauna. With this kit, having your sauna hooked up will be considerably easier and save you some money. You will need to have a licensed electrician to wire this. We can refer an electrician that knows our saunas. Or you can use your own.
For wood stove heaters - insulated floor, heat shield, high temp insulated pipe, flashing and cap are included. Nothing else is needed to get your stove going.
**Please note that the customer is responsible to ensure that any wood stove is compliant with building codes, regulations and insurance standards.**
Installation
We offer delivery and assembly for $1,800 within an hour of Calgary or the Bow Valley. Please call for rates beyond that. We can also send the Mökki to you in a package for you to put together. Just know that you will need a strong crew to unload and assemble.
In some cases, a crane may be necessary. This would be quoted on a site specific basis.
Any solid base will work to place the sauna. The Mökki weighs in at about 2,500 kgs. We recommend the following, in order of preference:
Screw piles. There are many advantages to screw piles. Your sauna is perfectly level. The piles and installation have a minimal impact on the site, and they do not move. We can arrange this for you. Cost is site specific but expect prices to range between $1,200 and $1,600 in Calgary and the surrounding area.
Concrete or large paver (Techo-Bloc) pad. If placed professionally, this offers a solid foundation for your sauna. It's important the pad be poured or placed level. Costs would be site and supplier specific. This is something the customer would need to coordinate. Most Landscapers can do this. Cost typically ranges between $1,800 and $3,600.
20mm Rundle, Limestone or road crush compacted in a 6x6 timber frame. The sauna then sits on sleepers which in turn sit on the stone. If compacted properly, the sauna will not move after an initial settling period. This option offers good drainage, but frost heaving is possible. Costs would be site and supplier specific. This is something the customer would need to coordinate. Most Landscapers can do this. Cost typically ranges between $1,600 and $2,600.
What we don't recommend:
Hand dug sonotubes filled with concrete. These will likely move under the weight of the sauna.
Pavers or timbers placed on topsoil or uncompacted ground.
These options will cause the Mökki to move and settle, possibly causing twisting, gapping and broken glass.
Bottom line
We will work with you to find the best solution for placing your sauna.
